Roadmap

2026 and beyond.

Build the app so it can be uploaded to the TestFlight program.

Current stage

Fix all bugs reported by anyone

New users should be able to learn how to use the app by reading the information contained within Chamfered Help. Accessible via Menu >> Help >> Chamfered Help

I like to allow users to customize their app to their liking -- within reason of course 😉 -- so it would be natural to have a proper Settings Panel.

At this moment, Chamfers are per-solid because that is significantly simpler to implement. The intent is to add an edge detection algorithm that can 'see' edges on any mesh and add chamfers where appropriate. That is a very complex task so it is possible that this feature gets delayed to 2027.

Timeline depends on many factors outside of Chamfered's own development -- more on that in my letter, if you're curious.

A beautiful, styled Customizer you can open on a project file that was made to support it. It allows anyone with no skills at all to change an object someone else made to suit their needs. For that to work, the creator of the project can assign certain Values to the Customizer and label them so the Customizer knows what to allow editing for.

Once the app's structure has become stable, the right time has come to allow the user to export a project so it can be shared with others. Enabling that feature before a stable structure has been established is a nightmare because it would result in a mess of mixed export versions that can cause all sorts of conflicts.

Since more and more 3D filamenet printers are now capable of supporting multi-color printing, having a file format that supports it will allow Chamfered to tell your slicer software where to use specific filament colors.

Originally, Chamfered does mesh export because that is what most users use. For CNC, STEP is ideal. I designed Chamfered in a way that allows for both to be possible. Implementing the STEP exporter is a serious task so I lean more towards releasing it after the first AppStore release.

This roadmap does not stop. I want to keep working on Chamfered to make it as good as it can be.
